"Artsparks" is Jupiter Artland's holiday programme for children aged 5 to 13. We offer fun and messy indoor and outdoor art activities. We aim to teach art skills in an informal and fun environment. The courses are usually two days long and occasionally we offer a full week. The day runs from 10am to 4pm and is based in the education space at Jupiter Artland.

Most projects are based on topical artists. For example we did a workshop on Tracy Emin last summer when her retrospective was on at the National Gallery of Modern Art. The children learnt about her work (in a censored form!) and made felt and appliqued canvases based on her textile work.

Another workshop was based on the work of Richard Long. Our timing was perfect as we did lots of mud printing in one of the wettest summers on record when mud was a prolific resource! The children enjoyed learning about "Richard Long" walks by doing their own around the woods and parkland.

Our latest Artsparks was themed "recycled Christmas". The children made lots of Christmas gifts and decorations from old toys, jam jars, old clothes, curtains, dried up felt tip pens and so on. They also investigated successful artists who create their work from recycled goods.

During the course the children learn to keep a sketchbook to note down their ideas and of course to draw when and where they like!

We aim to create a spark... an artspark!
